DESCRIPTION

By blocking 1 to 5 f-stops, you can use wider apertures in low variable light for shallower depth of field effects, and slower shutter speeds for long exposure effects without overexposing your images. Videographers can use our ND2–32 Variable ND Filter Plus+ to create more cinematic effects in bright and changing light.

Our Plus+ range features 20 layers of nano-coating providing easier cleaning and better protection against water, oil, and scratches. These layers also provide a higher maximum light transmission and a more consistent transmission curve for truer light reduction.

How to Use

Variable ND2-32 (1-5 Stop) Filter Plus+

1/5

Find your filter size
Inquisitively search lens for diameter symbol. Ø often marks the spot. The diameter you seek may be accompanied by a number – Ø58 or Ø58mm. Look to the side and the front – this precious number is your filter size. Be warned: your lens focal length (e.g. 18-55mm) is not your filter size.
Variable ND2-32 (1-5 Stop) Filter Plus+

2/5

Place flat and screw clockwise
Excitedly behold lens in one hand and place flat on lens. Gently screw clockwise until just firm. Do not over-tighten that which goes on must one day come off.
Variable ND2-32 (1-5 Stop) Filter Plus+

3/5

Slow your shutter
The 1 to 5 f-stop darkening of your images allows you to slow your shutter speed for motion blur effects.
Variable ND2-32 (1-5 Stop) Filter Plus+

4/5

Open your aperture
Or, you can adjust for the darkening by opening up your aperture, which creates a shallower depth of field. You can also combine both exposure setting adjustments.
Variable ND2-32 (1-5 Stop) Filter Plus+

5/5

Get more cinematic
Use our ND232 to create more cinematic effects when filming. By blocking 1 to 5 f-stops of light, you can open your aperture for a shallower depth of field, creating stunning cinematic effects in different and changing light conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Variable ND Filter should I buy?

It depends on the conditions you’ll be shooting in and the effects you want to achieve.

Our Variable ND2-32 is made for low-light, our Variable ND2-400 and ND8-128 are for low-light and bright light, and our ND64-1000 is specifically for harsh bright light and long exposure.

Should I buy a fixed or variable ND filter?

It depends on how, where and what you’ll be shooting.

Fixed ND filters block a fixed f-stop of light from entering your camera. Variable ND filters provide more flexibility and have a range of f-stops you can block by rotating the outer element. If you’re starting out with ND filters, we recommend a Variable ND so you have more flexibility while you’re learning how to shoot with an ND. If the light is likely to change often, a Variable ND saves you changing between fixed NDs each time.

Do Urth ND filters have a colour cast?

No, they have great colour neutrality.

There are a couple of reasons your images may show a slight colour cast when using an ND filter. Check your white balance settings. By restricting the light entering your camera, it may throw out your white balance settings. Manually adjust your white balance settings to reduce any colour cast.

What’s the best Variable ND filter for wide-angle and telephoto lenses?

Our whole range of Fixed ND Filters work with wide-angle and telephoto lenses.

Our ND filters have ultra-slim rims to avoid any vignetting issues. Our Fixed ND Filters are all in our professional Plus+ range and use the world’s best glass, making them perfect for wide-angle and telephoto lenses.

Do I need to step-up my lens cap for Urth Variable ND Filters?

No, our Variable ND Filters take the same size lens cap.

If your lens takes a 67mm Urth Variable ND Filter, your 67mm lens cap will fit perfectly. Some variable ND filters require you to step-up a size, but not Urth.

No colour cast, no worries at all. Love this Variable ND and highly recommend. Jana bought our ND2-32 Plus+.

Just what I needed!

I was unsure about getting an ND filter as I stupidly thought they were only used for landscape photography. I tend to photograph the natural world or documentary scene. My lenses tend to be either f1.2,f1.4 or f1.8 as I love playing with the shallow depth of field, so being able to use a variable ND filter with such bright lenses allows for greater control of a scene's light. The 'variable' nature of the filter allowed for a quick set up compared to a set ND filter. I've used this lens for over a year and I carry it with me at all times. I highly recommend this lens as it's well-made, durable and keeps image fidelity.

Fantastic Filter

The variable ND filter plus+ from Urth has immediately become my favourite filter. I’ve tried a lot of other brands VNDs and this is by far the best for creative photography and videography. I love it and would fully recommend.
